So, it seems after the CAT saga (read all about it!) another major Lexus vehicle design fault makes it easier for thieves to steal your car without much effort.

I introduce to you CAN-Bus theft, a shockingly easy way to:

  • Shut off the vehicles immobiliser
  • Unlock the car doors
  • Start the engine

Just by accessing the vehicles CAN-Bus port from OUTSIDE the vehicle (usually by removing a headlight or via front wheel arch) and connecting using a simple hacking device called a CAN INVADER (buy yours from selected criminal outlets on the dark web for around £2000) then any thieving scum can drive off with your Lexus at ANYTIME they like!

Lexus Denial

It seems Lexus the company are trying to keep this one quiet. Hence my blog post. It’s bad. Affected models are those from 2010 onwards:

  • RX –
  • NX – NX300h
  • CT
  • ES – ES300
  • UX – UX300e
  • even the Toyota RAV4 (remember, Lexus is a Toyota company!)

These are the ones I’m aware of, if in doubt call your Lexus dealer and ask if a model you have or intend to buy is affected. Don’t let them fob you off with “Oh don’t worry, the rascals are only targeting CT models”. If it’s affected, it can be stolen.

I Loved My RX

I really did, after 3 CAT thefts she had to go…here she is on the way out:

I only found out about this CAN-Bus stuff is because I was actually looking to buy a newer Lexus RX to replace my Hyundai Tuscon. I miss my RX400h that much!!!

NEVER.

NEVER will I buy a Lexus.

What other issues with compromised security are currently known by the Lexus company and the criminal fraternity that we, the general public public, do not. My trust in the Lexus brand is completely shot. Gone. Poof.

Sure, they make bulletproof cars from a reliability and dependability perspective but they are severely compromised from a security perspective – DON’T BUY ONE

Lexus UK Official information

Of course, this was going on for years but eventually Lexus UK did put out a statement in MARCH 2024!

  1. I think they rely on the fact that since only grandads drive them that any self respecting thief wouldn’t be caught dead in one 🙂
How’s that for a theft deterrent!
