It’s not all uphill, downhill but there’s enough of it to be prepared for it and it’s also the best way to savour all that is on offer.

Heed This WARNING

IF you are planning this trip in advance GREAT, now before you read anything else do this:

Go to this official Granada ticket website and book your Alhambra tickets NOW: https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/ – watch out for scam websites and other inflated resellers. As of May 2026 Adult tickets (Alhambra general ‘complete visit’) are €22.27 each, anyone charging way more you should be suspicious of.

Tickets are sold a whole year in advance.

IF you are doing this as a LAST MINUTE trip I’m afraid I have bad news for you. It’s ALMOST impossible to get Alhambra tickets days/weeks in advance. You need Months! Fear not though, you MIGHT have options:

Get a ‘Granada Card’ which includes an entrance ticket to the Alhambra as well as free entry to other local attractions

Check for valid, official touring Groups who provide a tour guide as well as entrance tickets, it’s a more costly option. Careful though, a lot of scam websites/people out there so triple check everything

Get a specific ‘Night’ ticket for the Gardens and/or Nasrid Palace, usually allows access from 7/8pm during certain months of the year

Lastly, if you cannot get any tickets you can still head upto the Alhambra and for FREE explore the grounds around this iconic structure, as well as around the Nasrid Palace and the outskirts of the Gardens.

Days Needed

How much time do you need in Granada I hear you ask. Stay as long as you can, it’s a nice place but if you’re there to get your fill and move on then I’d say 3 full days works best.

Driving, Parking

You cannot take your own/hired car into the city itself – there is a large exclusion zone only to be used by local taxis and residents vehicles. You will likely get fined and towed if you do, plus you don’t want to drive anyway as the roads are narrow and the turns can be very tight. In an SUV? Don’t chance it, you’ll probably get stuck.

So instead park externally, I did a fair bit of research into local car parks (secure, best cost, proximity to accommodation) and these are the car parks I short-listed. The key factor in choosing is dependant on where your accommodation is.

“Parking San Cristóbal Albaicín” – great car park north of the centre. It’s attached to a school. Their website is https://sancristobal.amgr.es/parkingalbaicin/ where you could book. We didn’t, turned up on the day and there were plenty of spaces. Around €48 for 4 days parking

“Severo Ochoa Parking” – this one is again north but much more west of the city. The website is https://iparksa.com/ipark-granada-severo-ochoa/. It’s sort of underground, has security and large marked bays. Bit more expensive at around €15/hour for 4 days for example

Taxi Sir/Madam?

Once you park I recommend you walk to your accommodation, but if the luggage is a bit too much or the kids are too hyper then it’s time to take a taxi. Book using your phone, install the Pide Taxi app and within a few mins your driver will appear – it works a lot better than Uber across most of Spain >>> https://pidetaxi.es/en/

Where to Stay?

Where to Eat?

What else to Visit?

Some useful tips & advice for visiting this amazing city of Granada in Andalusia, Spain.
