Having been the proud owner of a 2.2 Direct auto since Oct 2007 about 2 months ago it decided to die a death. At first it was annoying, but it soon became an opportunity to learn exactly what is under that bonnet. To start I got an £25 adapter of flea-bay to read the ECU code, once I had some inkling of the problem it was time to resolve it.
Firsly the local D(st)ealers price for repair was a whopping £871+VAT, ridiculous. Then when I tried to source the faulty part (fuel pump) myself I soon realised they were both rare and damn expensive. In the end I forked out just over £300 for one, again of flea-bay but the key thing is to make sure you buy a Continental pump NOT the Siemens branded one.
Secondly you need to change it, now this is something that initially filled me with a little fear. In fact the job was easy, the only difficult bit being the darn retaining clips (TIP: another pair of hands and 2 smallish flat head screw drivers does the trick!!!). Take out the Siemens one…
Once you get the old one out then replace it with the Continental model, and away you go! Not quite, it takes a while before the engine pressure gets back to normal, don’t drive it straightaway – let it idle until the dashboard warning light goes off (picture of car with a spanner). Then leave it running for a while to ensure no cut-outs into limp or dead mode.
My Vectra C is zooming again, oh and don’t forgot the silent (shhhhhh!), yes blinkin SILENT RECALL for all Z22YH engines for a new FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. This will be done by your local stealers for free, I suggest you ring in advance to ensure your engine type is covered by the recall.
Next, it’s the Throttle body and then the Mass Air Filter to sort out…perhaps a engine flush too. Need it running as sweetly as possible!
Thanks, this was exactly the prb I had on my Signum 2.2 as well.
Great post, info is spot on, new continental pump purchased from ebay for 280 and installed, PROBLEM SOLVED. I was very happy especially considering Vauxhall told me it was the regulator(that had already been replaced 8 months early with the revised one), the only reason I didnt pay out for a new one was they didnt have any in stock and had been waiting for some from Vauxall for 2 months, took a puny based on this post and job done!
I have complained to Vauxhall and Watchdog.
What fault code did you get up to diagnose it was the pump itself ?
Basically it was error code ’52’
I got the following output from the Op-COM cable connection:

Hi any ideas on a cylinder 1 misfire 2.2 direct model had new coil pack new fuel pump new plugs thanks
Sorry, I have no idea what it could be. Has it been fixed? My 2.2 is on its way out, had enough now that it’s 10 years old and on 177K!
Hi, I too am having problems with my 2006 2.2 Direct Elite Vectra, love the car but I think I may have the dreaded fuel pump problem.
I’ve just had a new fuel pressure regulator and new timing chain / tensioners / balance shaft and guides but the car has lost power and struggles to accelerate, also there’s a vibration between 2500rpm and 3000rpm and the engine sounds really throaty!
No codes present, Emissions light (Engine Block) is on when key in position II but nothing when running. I’m using an ELM327 Connector and Vauxcheck software from Gendan.co.uk but looking at buying the OPCOM plug & software.
Any help appreciated, Vectra forum guys think HP fuel pump.
Thanks
Jonny
By the way my pump is a Siemens and the car has just done 70K miles.
Hi Jonny. Believe it or not I still have my 2.2, heading towards 190K miles and the only thing ever changed 1. Fuel Pump 2. Nearside rear wheel bearing. That’s it, it does have a tiny leak in the rear somewhere as water gets into the boot sill after a period of bad weather (common problem with vectras!).
I would change the Fuel Pump to a Conti brand or similar. I got mine from a spares place in Oldham through Ebay, it was nearly 300 at that time and I’ve done a quick search and the genuine ones are still around that price. I’d go to a scrap dealer and get the part cheaper, more like 100-150. It totally sounds like replacing it will fix your problem.
Good Luck!
Hi guys i have a vauxhall vectra 2.2 direct sri xp petrol on 07 plate the car has no power left in it. It was driving sluggish and just replaced the fuel pump as i was told there are known to go on the cars. Anyway after replacing pump the problem is still there.. the car starts fine but but no power on the pedal. Ive been reading thru the forums but just confused now. Appreciate any advise.
hi did you ever get it sorted and what was it mine is the same runs smooth starts fine revs free in neutral no dash lights on just no power thank you
Khany
did you fix you problem? as i have a similar problem.
Does any one knows if the signum 03 reg its on recall for the fuel pressure regulator ? Thanks
whats the after market one called pleaser????
Where can I get the adapter to read the ECU code
I know this is kinda an old thread but have what seems like the same issue with my 07 Zafira 2.2 SRI Direct.
At random times loses all power, engine management light comes on and then won’t rev over 3k (Limp Mode), it has been into the garage and as it’s randomly happens they have not been able to diagnose.
Seems BBC Watchdog did an article about the fuel pumps & regulators but to my knowledge Vauxhall didn’t do a recall, not sure as the car is 14 years old they would do anything now anyway if they had???
I’m sure a garage would quote me about the worth of the actual car to fix so a bit frustrating bar that it’s a nice 1st car for me and would love it to just be a bit more reliable.
