Hmmm, this is tragic by Co-operative Bank. My card stopped working “bad card” says Mr Chip & Pin, seems retailers are used to this and try cleaning the ‘chip’ sim like part of the card and attempting it again.
Anyway, it no longer works. Cannot access my account easily anymore. So I called their Lost & Stolen number so I could order a replacement. The ‘Lost’ and ‘Stolen’ bit is quite important, why you say?
Well, when you call the number (0161 376 0012) the FIRST thing it asks you to enter….is…the long 16 digit number on your Lost or Stolen card.! Doh. Followd by the ‘#’ key. Fail.
Maybe the workaround is for everyone to memorise that 16 digit number, after all when you buy online you have to enter it anyway then when the card goes AWOL you have no worries. Heck you might still be able to use it online. Or perhaps Co-op can modify their IVR menu to actually let you report a Lost or Stolen card without delay, I won’t hold my breath…
Ordered mine just 10 mins ago, was told 2-3 working days to get a new one. Well, let’s see now, will update this post with time & date of arrival. Currently it is just shy of 11AM on Thursday 16th October.
Update
Mmmmm, I am slightly impressed. The card arrived in the post on Saturday the 18th October. 2 days! Nice one. However get this, about a whole week later I wanted to buy something of the Adidas website, it had my card already saved so I thought I would try the old security number from the lost card (new card has a new security number – that and the expiry date are the only details that are different) – the old security code was accepted!
