Easiest way to setup an exception for protected view for local drive mappings, all Windows versions (yes, including 10):
- Fire up Internet Explorer, type ‘iexplore.exe’ in run
- Go to Tools icon > Internet Options
- Browse to the Security tab, click ‘Local Intranet’
- click ‘Sites’ then ‘Advanced’
- Under ‘Add this website to the zone:’ remove the URL of the current page you are on and replace with ‘file://IPAddress’ e.g. ‘file://192.168.0.25’ OR by hostname e.g, ‘file://myfileserver’
- You can also add a specific drive letter using file:///Z:/ which will resolve itself to an IP or hostname
- Once happy click Close/OK until you’re back to Internet Explorer, try to open a document from a share and protected view should no longer pop up
